| Bookies dismiss new NSW regulations |
Sydney’s bookmakers have dismissed Racing NSW’s offer to “operate internet betting either from their raceday stand, in a betting auditorium or from an Approved Betting Office” on a 24-hour / seven day a week basis.
On Wednesday, Racing NSW approved terms and conditions to regulate and monitor licensed bookmakers wishing to transact bets via the Internet on NSW racecourses.
A number of bookmakers operating at Canterbury on Wednesday said the move was “too little too late”.
“I’d be surprised if any bookmaker applies,” leading rails bookie Robbie Waterhouse said. “We still can’t offer best tote or exotics.
“They obviously don’t understand the problems.”
Another rails bagman Wayne McDonald said the move would be impractical and they still are not on a “level playing field” with other bookmakers. “If I could operate from home it would be viable but I don’t want to be working from an office at a racetrack all night,’ McDonald said.
