| Syringe found in winning trainer's bag at Canterbury |
Racing NSW stewards found a syringe in the raceday gear bag of a Sydney trainer during a random search at Canterbury on Wednesday.
Stewards questioned Paul Messara’s foreman Barry Wintle about the find before the stable’s filly Flowerchild won the Family Funday Day Easter Monday Handicap over 1250m.
Wintle told stewards it was an “oversight” and stewards agreed that the syringe had not been used.
“No substances or treatments were administered to any of the stable’s runners,” Acting chief steward Greg Rudolph said.
“That is why we allowed Flowerchild to take her place in the race.” Stewards fined the stable $200 over the incident.
