| Punters able to cancel Australian Cup bets |
TAB Sportsbet has announced it will allow punters to cancel bets placed on the rescheduled Australian Cup.
The betting giant’s rules state all current bets stand on the Australian Cup and Crown Guineas because the races will be run within seven days of their original date.
However, the scratching and subsequent re-instatement of Melbourne Cup winner Shocking into the field has caused an unusual set of circumstances.
TAB Sportsbet has enacted a set of scenarios surrounding Shocking, which are shown below, but punters have the option of cancelling their wager for a full refund.
“We have tried to ensure that no customer is unfairly disadvantaged by the circumstances surrounding the reinstatement of Shocking in the Australian Cup field,” said TAB Sportsbet’s managing director, Craig Nugent.
“TAB Sportsbet endeavoured to be as even-handed as possible in the treatment of these bets.”

- A refund will be paid on bets placed on Shocking after 10.18am on 3 March (when Final Field betting commenced).
- Bets on the winner and placegetters will be paid on face value of ticket. |

Shocking starts; runs unplaced |
- Bets on the winner and placegetters will be paid on face value of ticket (subject to normal deductions on scratchings or dead heats).
- Bets on the winner and placegetters, which were placed after Shocking was scratched, will receive a 13% Win top-up and 12% Place top-up, acknowledging that the price received by these customers was reduced because of Shocking’s scratching. The top-ups will automatically be processed for TAB account customers. Retail customers will need to submit a claim through their TAB outlet. |

Shocking wins |
- As Shocking was declared a scratching on Saturday morning, customers who placed a bet on Shocking in TAB outlets will need to submit a claim (with the normal fee waived). TAB account customers will have their account balances adjusted.
- As customers may have placed a bet believing Shocking was a scratching, TAB Sportsbet will also treat the second placegetter as the winner and 4th placegetter as the 3rd placegetter. These tickets will be paid automatically. |
