Punter slams TAB Sportsbet on Australian Cup
A Racenet reader has labelled the length of time TAB Sportsbet took to announce a decision on Australian Cup betting as “a disgrace”.

Australian Cup betting was severely disrupted after last Saturday's meeting was postponed with the Mark Kavanagh-trained Shocking a pre-race scratching with a foot abscess.

TAB Sportsbet consulted with Victorian and New South Wales betting regulators after the postponement with a decision announced surrounding Australian Cup markets on Wednesday.

Alan Swan called the situation "a disgrace" and forwarded an email circulating among punters claiming TAB Sportsbet did not need to delay a ruling on the unusual situation because its own rules are clear.

TAB Sportsbet rule 5.4 reads as follows:

“(a) Subject to Rules 4.6, 4.8 and 4.9, in the case of fixed price racing (futures) events where betting is opened prior to the official time for the declarations of final acceptances. If the event is postponed and not held within seven (7) or less days of the day on which the event was originally scheduled to commence, the event shall be treated as abandoned and all investments on runners that remain acceptors at the expiry of the seven (7) day period shall be refunded.”

“Do the rules not explain it fairly simply?” the author said.

“I would've thought they would refer to their rule book rather than open a Royal Inquiry into it.”
