| Cummings – Don’t underestimate Occurrence |
Smart sprinting mare Occurrence is set to recapture her career best form on Saturday when she lines up in the Group II Breeders Classic at Randwick on Saturday.
The daughter of Choisir hasn’t been seen at the races since winning a Hawkesbury welter in April last year which was her first win since the campaign that saw her finish third in the Group I Queen Of The Turf in 2008.
“We couldn’t be happier with the horse to be honest,” James Cummings said.
“She’s been hard held in both her trials and her gallop between races [last Saturday] with Kroner was very good and we know she appreciates the wet weather.
“She looks well in herself and everything’s been right so I can’t throw you off her.”
Occurrence galloped on the Randwick Course proper on Tuesday morning having a relatively easy time over 1000 metres.
The time for the gallop was 1:10.10 seconds with the final 600 metres covered in 39.50 seconds and the final furlong run in 12.70 seconds.
“She is following the same pattern that has seen her race well fresh in the past,” Randwick Clocker Craig Tompson said.
“She’s not often been let off the bit in her work but I think that’s the way she likes it.” Click here to see what James Cummings thinks of the Leilani Lodge entries for Saturday as well as an update on Roman Emperor and Allez Wonder.
